When the idea of making a track including vocals from a fluffy member of the Canis lupus arctos family was first floated I thoght it was a fantastic idea and would give autotune a run for its money, but as the story developed this project became very important not for its novelty but for the almost magical true story it conveys. This story is a genuinely heartfelt one and a story I will never forget.
This project was completely soley in Ableton Live using Ableton's built in instruments and this was infact the first time we'd used Ableton so there was a learning curve.
Recording the vocals from the animal was actually not that hard since this species is quite vocal and we simply recorded them playing together and then cut that down and down to a select set of samples, the majority of which are included as recoreded with a touch of reverb. For the woof'ing that marks out the bars we used Ableton's sampler to adjust the pitch sligtly to be in key. The female vocals both spolen and sung were adjusted very slightly to achieve pitch and rythm sync but she did very well and was generally within a semi of the correct note.
Finally we threw in some stock ableton samples to jazz up the mid-section which I think was also a journey. The cover art is not stock but infact an actual photograph of the animal which did eventually sit still for the few seconds it took.
I am proud to have been involved in this project and to have written some of the score, but this story is one for the ages.
